CT-Art Elo I recently purchased CT-ART 3.0. To my surprise I got quite an high Elo score (consistently around 2400-2500). I was wondering about the Elo scores some of you obtained? I know that the Elo measure of CT-Art has nothing to do with actual playing performance but I find it nevertheless interesting. Also, did the use of CT-Art improve performance in the long run? (Mine are worst since I started using it, I guess I'm looking too much for… More: backgammon online

How to improve I'm pretty new here. I've only finished 39 games. I'm returning to the game after not playing for a while--ten or fifteen years, I guess. I was never a tournament player, but I used to play recreationally against at least some players who were "serious." I love the game but have never been especially good. Here at GK I've won a lot of games but I've been, so to speak, working my way up the ratings scale, in terms of my opponents.… More: online chess

totally won ... opponent would not resign i really do not appreciate it when an opponent would not resign even if his/her situation is totally hopeless. it's really fine when it's otb, but on gk, i don't think so. add to the frustration ... the opponent waits until it's just several hours b4 he/she loses on overstepping the time limit to make another move, then repeats the process. what can i do ? my opponent has played more than 300 games on… More: backgammon online

Who likes Alekhine opening?? If you do, join this MT: -> gameknot.com In the process of inviting people to the MT, however, I've encountered some very strong opinions about the opening (mostly bad)! I don't know much about it, that's why i signed up. Just curious if it polarizes everyone, or just the folks I spoke with. Cheers / Jeff i like the opening as white... that four pawns attack gives white lots of space, and it suits my game... i… More: chess history

Game for analysis... I've always wanted to show that game for analysis. I have some remarks on it; but I'll review and post them later. Just one note: First move to be evaluated is 10. Bb3 (opening is well known Latvian gambit). 10. Bb3 looks as weak, but this game shows that after many moves that Bishop takes its role. At 10. Be2 the Bishop still isn't very active... ---------- Enjoy it! ------------------ [Event "Bishop opening; 1. e4 e5 2.… More: correspondence chess

I need a plan! Can anybody offer any good advice? I am a defensive, closed game player...mostly. I lose far too often due to my own kamikazee surprise attacks, mainly because I like the surprise and I feel I can defend well if it all goes wrong. I pretty much never make a serious blunder, just sometimes lack tactical initiative, and miss seemingly minor positional things. I lose sometimes because I'd rather ignore threats and counter attack ( my play chess online…

French Defense right on! The French Defense, I don't know. Been looking at it closely. The Exchange variation , the Leningrad Variation,Rauzer Variation ,even the Winawer Vaaiation. It looks good and reads well but can you trust it when it counts. I think not. I do not like it. It's rather fickle. I think I will boycott playing it. Pawn to king four is what I'll do. Poo poo pee doo. I love Chess. I would not want to play me. I am that good. Stay play chess online…

Slump - Anyone know how to get out of it? Dear all on this forum. Although I still have one outstanding game in my profile, I am virtually taking a sabbatical from chess until a month from now (late October) before I take on any new challenges. The reason for this is that I played a lot of games over the first few weeks of September (including the GK38 which I am now knocked out of). If you look at my profile my rating has taken a huge dive play chess online…

weird opening, board #649054 Cyrano is THE MAN! HEY CYRANO!!! CHALLENGE ME TO A GAME PLEASE!!! well Even though Nimzowitsch once said that he didnt know any refutation to the latvian its still an extemely nice thing to see Cyrano master this opening in this way. Its clearly one of the openings that still have mystic and beauty surrounding it, at least my my little knowledge. Guess I just wanted to be part of it in some odd way.. ;) wow Cyrano play chess online…

Am I the only one?? RE: Chess Books Am I the only one that takes an inordinate amount of time to work through a chess book? I set up my board for each diagram and annotated game, and it seems like I can spend up to half an hour just analyzing and reviewing 3-4 pages. I'm currently reading "Reassess Your Chess by IM Jeremy Silman" and love it so far, but was just curious as to whether the rest of you work through chess books with the same degree play chess online…

Analyze this (please!) I've just finished a game of over 90 moves board #602059 . It ended as a draw (insuffient material) which I had to try and find for about 40 moves. I'm wondering whether my opponent should have been able to force the win. I had my king and rook, he had king and queen. The position at move 57 was white Kd6, Qc8 and black Kb3, Ra4. My strategy was to keep his king from combining with the queen to force a mate, by positioning play chess online…
