Message: I would like to give a try at learning chess by analysing grandmasters' game, but I've a few questions... First of all, my Chessmaster 10th edition database contains thousands of such games, should I choose games at random? Then, how long should I spend on a game: 1h, 10h or just go on until I 'fully' understand the game? Finally, should I analyse both sides, or just concentrate on a colour?
I know that different people have different approaches that work for them, but I would like hearing of your advices!
Thanks,
--Yannick

Message: It does not matter much which game you chose, but you could consider chose those grandmaster whose opening repertoire resembles yours and whose style you like.
I think that the analyses length depends on your strenth, but for the average player analysing too long does not seem helpfull. I myself would rather play trough two games a hour each than one game two hours long.
I think it is important to play trough and think about both sides as that will make it easier what plans both sides must chose in a given position and what plans seem to be more viable.
