Guess the chess world will have to think seriously about how such things can be avoided in the future. It's only going to get worse in the future with new technologies and stronger software.

cheers

ps. wonder if this fella did ever meet Kramnik? :-)

It is clearly cheating, perhaps if every chess player walked through a metal detector it would be solved

p.s. Kramnik never used fritz as a small minority claim.

Impressive Field at World Open — The World Open, the annual chess tournament in Philadelphia that always takes place around July 4th, often lives up to its name by attracting a world-class contingent of chess players. This year is no different as the field includes Francisco Vallejo Pons of Spain, Surya Shekhar Ganguly of India, Loek Van Wely of the Netherlands, Luke McShane of England, Evgeny Najer of Russia, Viktor Laznicka of the Czech Republic and Ilya Smirin of Israel. It also includes many of the best Americans, among them Gata Kamsky, the United States chess champion, and Alexander Onischuk. The players come because the tournament offers one of the biggest prize funds in the world. This year’s is ...

I'm not exactly sure what the device in his cap would help him with, given that he probably couldn't remove it from the cap for fear of suspicion, and it would be hard to use as a hidden communicating device.

Magnus Carlsen closes in on Garry Kasparov's record chess rating — Magnus Carlsen is closing in fast on Garry Kasparov's all-time record chess rating. The 19-year-old Norwegian scored an unbeaten 7.5/10 at Medias, Romania to take his score on the daily calculations up to 2826, just 25 points shy of the great Russian's peak mark. And Carlsen did it while still not in optimum form. He began with two draws, then took risks including a 1 e4 e5 2 f4 King's Gambit and a couple of dubious positions, but his inventiveness and will to win coupled with the growing Carlsen-fear of those on the other side of the chess board ensured another impressive outcome. Technically his most interesting game, certainly from the practical viewpoint of competition ...

A Race for Second at the Grand Prix — With four rounds left in the Fourth Women’s Chess Grand Prix in Jermuk, Russia, time is rapidly running out for anyone to try to overtake Nana Dzagnidze of the Republic of Georgia for first place. She leads by 1.5 points over Lilit Mkrtchian of Armenia and Tatiana Kosintseva of Russia. She still has to play Mkrtchian and Hou Yifan of China, the chess tournament’s top seed, who is currently in fourth, so there is still a chance she might be caught. But her form so far has been superb as she has only yielded one draw in seven rounds. So the rest of the tournament may be a race for second. The Grand Prix is a series of six tournaments organized by the World Chess Federation. The winner will ...

caro ... Really, really primative !

Message:
haha (joking) Because this very plot was used in a Very early 1970's episode of "Mission Impossible" ! Which simply used a GM to tell the undercover spy the moves to make ... if I recall correctly. Or perhaps they played two against each other. Something of that order, being transmitted to a receiver in the earpiece of their man's eyeglasses!!

A White Day at the Women’s Chess Grand Prix — Everyone knows that playing White is an advantage in chess (though curiously it was not during the last round of the King’s Tournament in Romania that ended Friday; then Black won all the games). But, the results of Round 6 of the Women’s Chess Grand Prix in Jermuk, Russia, were still startling. White won every game. It was the second time in the first six rounds of the chess tournament that every game had ended decisively. Over all, only 8 of the 36 games in the tournament have ended in draws, an astonishingly low percentage. After six rounds, Nana Dzagnidze of the Republic of Georgia leads with 5.5 points, a point ahead of Lilit Mkrtchian of Armenia. Tatiana Kosintseva of Russia is ...

Yes, you've all been asking. So okay, I've done the research, talked to the pundits, gleaned the Experts, and found the answers to it all ...
[They didnt know, but I was talking to mlazar too, and He knew; so without placing wagers, but feeling good about it, here it is ! ]

In the Mission Impossible episode it was none other than Intergalactic GM Mr Spock
who sat the board of that game, in the gize (phonetic spelling, sorry) of Leonard Nimoy, who was playing the Real-TV-Created (aka Unreal)GM in that our spy team must overcome. Now that is indeed a tall order, so it had to be none-the-less than
Martin Landau
(aka "Serak", Mr Spocks Father! As well as being the Promethian "Surak", bringer of Vulcan logic in another episode of Trek. Nice trump card indeed)
to be wired up and fed some moves across the board.
We can be sure that our boys in black won the episode ... but who won the Game!
And where do I get the Scoresheet!! Thats what I need to know now ... (NEED TO KNOW ... did you catch that guys? Just checking; secret tape to follow .... )

A chess lesson from the late Vasily Smyslov — How did the great Russian grandmaster win this game? Vasily Smyslov, the former world chess champion who died in March, was often described as a master of the endgame and brilliant positional player, but great chess players are able to change their style according to the demands of the position. I've been going through his games and found strategic masterpieces but also blistering attacking play. Earlier in this game he sacrificed a piece to activate his forces and followed up by advancing his h-pawn – one of my favourite attacking methods. But it takes skill to finish the game. RB This may be a very famous chess position but it's not one that I ever remember seeing and ...

and examination of the site having the MI episode shows it was not Spock (no wonder they pulled it off then !) but a look-alike imposter of Spock?! Spock seems to have a penchant for getting lost it seems... -> www.imdb.com
Martin Landau is of course there, and a regular MI member.

About Martin Landau being Spocks true biological father; preparing to play the role of Surak, mysteriously spirited away by a group of men led by one with white hair and horn-rimmed glasses prior to commencement of the role, and the good fortune in finding that Amazing Look-Alike "Mark Lenard" to take his place not only as Surak, but all future episodes as Serak as well ! And the rest is history ...?!

Of course Martin is not even mentioned in the credits ... It's a Conspiracy (admittedly, few know of it since Watergate was propagated to direct attention away in time to sweep it under the rug ... :)
Which raises the Real Question; Just WHAT are they trying to cover-up with this Blue-Tooth diversion?! You will note that V. Kramnick has STILL not answered the Burning Question: Does HE or Does HE NOT have Petroff lines tatooed on his left leg?! !

... was a short story "Slippery Elm" from, I think, the "Bedside Book of Chess". In this yarn, to bring down a particularly obnoxious club member (let's call him Mr Hoogenstraten - it was a name somewhat similar), a game was arranged between him and the permanent fixture at the foot of the club ladder - Joe Foozlewit (let's say; can't remember this dude's name at all). The latter was to be transmitted moves indicated by a passing Russian Grandmaster, who enscribed them upon lozenges of slippery elm ... candy, I think is the expression - we would call them lollies. Joe Foozlewit would eat these things after glancing at the move scratched thereon. Of course the thing went wrong to begin with because the PGM wrote the moves in Russian (obviously using the short Algebraic form)...
Quite a nice little short chess story, though the pick of them in this volume was "Professor Pownell's Mistake"...
Pity we don't see these kinds of stories any more...
