Message: I have a tattoo of a knight on my arm - the picture is in my profile.
I was wondering if anybody else had any or knew anybody who has any. I haven't come across anyone else but surely I'm not the only one.
I know somebody who got a certain poker hand (Jack-Ten) tattooed on his arm. I feel that mine is less "tacky", although people approach mine with mixed results.

Message: Dan, I have never seen or heard anyone actually having a Chess tattoo before, during my whole 35+ years around the tournament crowd. But now that you bring it up, I am a bit surprised to realize that. Perhaps it just doesn't come up during conversation, if not visibly displayed or noticeable.

Seems like an interesting idea & your Knight looks good ... maybe more players will go in for it if they see yours. Doesn't seem tacky at all to me. Personally, I see it as expressive Art, like the game itself.
Are you thinking of adding to the "set" ?

Message: Knights on the upper arm ... right hand side black knight, so obviously the queen's knight. Another on the other arm is the king's knight. Place bishops on the shoulders, king on the left cheek, queen on the right, rooks on each forearm, a row of 8 pawns across the chest - and you'll always be ready for a game!
I hope i haven't sarted anything...
;-)

Message: Thanks all. I don't think I'm getting any more chess tattoos - I'm studying to be a teacher and that is a profession that frowns on visible tattoos. I do want my next tattoo to probably deal with a Christian-related theme.
I do think that more players should get a chess tattoo. At the very least, it makes for an interesting conversation piece

Message: To answer the question, I don't think I could get a chess tattoo. I like the game, but not to that degree.
The only kind of tattoo I've considered getting is something along the lines that Tyler Florence (from Food Network) got. He says his favorite is this tattooed script that he got from a Buddhist monk. It sounds cool.
But then I figured that the ink probably has some kind of metal in it. If I ever have to undergo an MRI, I'd rather it be as painless as possible.

Message: at Denver's oldest tattoo shop. After reading this thread I asked him if he'd ever run across a chess related tattoo. He said no, but agreed that it was kind of surprising since chess piece iconograph is pretty interesting.

That was a few days ago. He came home from work yesterday and said someone had come in and asked for a large pawn on his back. Interesting timing and interesting choice of images.

And actually, this thread has got me thinking.....

Chess news:
Barden on Chess -- Monaco's annual Amber chess tournament offers £165,000 prize money, so the elite rarely turn it down. Moreover, the format of blindfold and rapid chess does not affect world rankings, so in theory a bad result can be shrugged off. But it could be different after this week's game, where the world chess champion, Vishy Anand, sacrifices his queen to mate Vladimir Kramnik, who meets the Indian in a 12-game title match in October. Below Kramnik could have saved himself quite late, by 41 Qa5 Qxf4 42 Re1 d4 43 Be4+ Kf7 44 Bxh7 Rxh7 45 Qd8 when Black draws with Qh2+. One cannot go too far with the concept that such a win can influence the coming match result. Of course Boris Spassky had beaten Bobby Fischer five times without reply after game two at Reykjavik 1972 and look what ...
Telegraph chess: Anand edges closer -- Vishy Anand edged closer to Levon Aronian in the sixth round of the 17th Amber Rapid and Blindfold Chess at Nice. The world champion defeated the Ukrainian chess prodigy Sergey Karjakin in the Blindfold game and with Aronian held to two draws by Shakhriyaz Mamedyarov, Anand cut his lead to half a point. Karjakin is making his debut at Amber after qualifying thanks to his performance at last year’s NH Youth v Experience chess tournament at Amsterdam. Traditionally, newcomers struggle to adjust to the Blindfold Chess but Karjakin has been doing quite well although he was comprehensively outplayed here. S Karjakin – V Anand; Amber Blindfold Nice (6); Sicilian Najdorf; 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 ...
Telegraph chess: Carlsen cashes in -- Magnus Carlsen achieved his first ever victory over the world chess champion Vishy Anand in round seven of the 17th Amber Rapid and Blindfold Chess at Nice. Carlsen’s win came in the Rapid Chess after he had been badly mauled in the Blindfold game. Playing white, Carlsen avoided opening theory and when Anand blundered a pawn the seventeen year old chess prodigy made no mistake – see below. The seventeenth edition of the Amber tournament is again sponsored by the Dutch chess enthusiast Joop van Oosterom and is being staged by the Association Max Euwe in the luxurious surroundings of the Palais de la Mediterranee on the Promenade des Anglais. The twelve invited chess players are competing for a prize fund of 216,000 Euros with prizes for the best performance in ...
