♡ 27 ( +1 | -1 ) UnderratedTough to think of overrated ones I need more time for that but as far as underrated. I believe Morphy, Steinitz, Pillsbury, Euwe, Rubinstein, Keres, and Petrosian were all very underrated chess players. Each of them played very well
♡ 56 ( +1 | -1 ) Overrated...At this time, and I hate to say it because he's a fav of mine "Kasparov"... He now has recently played and lost to Karpov (in a blitz tournament) when he blundered 3 times in three different games... Though he's the highest rated player today... It seems he's in one huge slump of late...
I hope he snaps out of it soon... Maybe this is just a Russian ploy to secure the championship trophy to the motherland...
Now this is just a now overrated thing... I still think he's one of the strongest and most brilliant players of the time... But the past year has shed some doubt in my mind...
♡ 20 ( +1 | -1 ) KasparovJust my two cents - if you look at his recent results in classical chess, he has done very well. His poor results and surprising blunders have occurred mainly in rapid & blitz tournaments...
♡ 29 ( +1 | -1 ) hmmmost overrated: Staunton most underrated: Bent Larsen most brilliant: Morphy most forgotten: :) forgotten his name ..lost very close match vs Lasker..pls help anyone most dairing and most modest:Rudolf Spielmann biggest ego:Fischer
♡ 39 ( +1 | -1 ) Bent LarsenWas not that underrated. In 1970 in the USSR vs. the rest of the world he was selected as #1 board for the rest of the world---Even Fischer didn't object to this decision though he was clearly superior to Larsen, as he proved the next year in the candidates by 6-0 over Larsen. In a recent interview Larsen said, unfortunately, he happened to be playing in an era where several players were stronger that he was.
♡ 18 ( +1 | -1 ) Most Underratedis me on GK with a rating of 1665 for now though I 've played 11 games without conceeding at least a draw. If u don't believe u can send ur challenge and don't be suprised when the strenght of a potential GM is unleashed on you!!
♡ 4 ( +1 | -1 ) I thought I wasthe most self- absorbed on GK- darn it!
♡ 7 ( +1 | -1 ) Be calm peoplewithout stress, I think the most modest:Mikhail Tal
♡ 66 ( +1 | -1 ) UnderratedSeveral names come to mind as Overrated but there are some, in my mind, who I feel were underrated...Paul Morphy for sure. Also Paul Keres, David Bronstein, Sammy Reshevsky...these are players who, under different circumstances would have been World Champions. The first two due to political situations in the old Soviet Union...Sammy simply had bad luck due to his era with the War and all.
There are others but these stand out to me. More recently, there is Vishy Anand. Here is a powerhouse player who seems to be missing some important element in his game to put him over the top...I don't know what it is but I hope he finds it. On the otherhand, Kramnik is overrated.
